Not to be confused with New Jersey's house music, Jersey Club is an electronic dance music genre entirely connected to black culture. Born in the early 2000s, Jersey Club went by the name "Brick City Club," coming from the building material used in the area's housing projects. The definite pioneers of the genre were the Brick Bandits, consisting of a group of artists who had bought the genre from Baltimore to Newmark and were especially important figureheads.

Even with the strong roots of Baltimore Club, Jersey Club quickly broke off into its own distinct, recognizable sound. It's bouncy, sometimes bass-heavy, full of energy, and often noted for its "call and response" feel. The definitive sounds consist of: the hard-hitting kick pattern (based off of Tapp's Dikkontrol beat), the vocal chops, bed squeak, other transformative reworking of samples, and the full-blown energy of its slowly increasing bpm (with artists typically going for 135 at the time). Now, Jersey Club ranges from anywhere from 100bpm to 200bpm, all courtesy to original producers who put their loving twist into the sound and culture.

"Some dance music is for appearances and posing. The NJ Club is for activity. You've got to feel something, and it puts you on your feet. It must make people move!" —'89, The Brainchild
