Great follow-up. I've never thought this one deserved to be so totally ignored like it was/has been. It's gotten some measure of respect the past several years but still is overlooked, IMO. The situation is sort of reminiscent of what happened with Pinkerton by Weezer, but I don't think Hallowed Ground has reached the relative level of acclaim that Pinkerton has (relative to Violent Femmes, I mean; obviously this band is nowhere near as popular as Weezer). Give it a shot if you haven't, though; I think you'll like it if you enjoy the debut.

Less consistent than its predecessor, but I still find it has the best Femmes' songs. It's just amazing how much of these first two albums were written by high school kids.

Not Jesus, old time AMERICANA. The songs that mention that "invisible friend" are quite enjoyable on a secular level, no?

Always wondered how they followed up their debut album, just downloaded Hallowed Ground a few days ago and man they followed it with another classic, nothing but love for this.

It's weird how they simultaneously got darker and starting singing about Jesus with this one. Still, they write some kickass tunes.
