“The Search” is the second single and title track for NF’s fourth album and marked his first release of 2019.
On the track, NF opens up about the struggles inside his head and dealing with fame. It shares a similar message to his 2018 single “WHY,” while both music videos share similar easter eggs such as the shopping cart and balloons.
The music video reveals NF free from the cage that was a frequent motif throughout his "Perception" album and featured prominently on the album’s cover.
The video was shot at various locations throughout Iceland. NF’s wife, Bridgette, posted on Instagram with pictures and videos from their trip to Iceland, and some landmarks from the music video can be noticed in some of the backgrounds.
During the week ending June 15, 2019, “The Search” peaked at #70 on the Hot 100.
“The Search” was RIAA certified gold with half a million units on December 12, 2019, the same day as “All I Have,” despite being released over 5 years apart from each other.
