It is an album that you absolutely have to listen to more than once to truly appreciate it.

Last five minutes of Spanish Key is a habitual gut punch. To be in that room while they were recording it must have been a trip.

First time I listened to this I disliked it and thought it was "unfocused and meandering" but now coming back to it I have no idea why I even thought that

Obviously a great album don't get me wrong and there's really nothing that sounds quite like it but I would almost call it overhyped. I much prefer other records from his fusion era and like MisterJunior said, a terrible starting point if you're just getting into jazz and it irks me how this is the Miles album after "Kind Of Blue" that people will almost immediatly recommend. "In A Silent Way" or "Jack Johnson" are much more digestible on first listen and feel way more focused and structured. Those albums clicked with me on pretty much first listen, while this one really took its toll on me and actually turned me away from jazz for years.

I had a feeling you were kidding, I met a lot of rock/metal fans who discovered Miles through this album and usually ended up loving it

I wish every critic who reviews Miles' discography or pens a review/article about a deluxe reissue of this album or puts out an "Albums to Get You into Jazz" list/video would stop recommending this. Yes, it is a masterpiece, but I would wager that it's turned as many people (if not more) off from Jazz than it has turned on over the years. It's a terrible introduction to both Miles and Jazz as a whole, and the average person who comes to it "cold" isn't going to understand why it's important or its context in Miles' career and, more often than not, will probably listen to it a couple or few times a year and then go back to whatever he or she normally listens to. Like I said it is a great album but that doesn't mean it's a great place for someone new to Jazz/Miles Davis to start.

I think it very much depends on a background and prior music interests. I have always appreciated jazz from a distance and never really listened to it actively. Multiple times over years I tried to get into Miles with "Kind of Blue" but never really liked it. "Brew" on the other hand was a love from first minutes. It just sounds exactly right for me.

Same here! I'm coming more from the (Progressive) Rock/Metal side of things and while liking "Kind of Blue" after some listens, I found this one fairly easy to fall in love with. :D

I don't know man i like a lot of atmo black and ambient so In A Silent Way clicked faster, and Bitches Brew even faster because I love some chaotic prog rock, while I still have yet to appreciate Kind of Blue at all.

Definitely one of the all-time music masterpieces. Miles melded together the worlds of jazz and psychedelic rock on this record, and the result is a timeless classic that will never be forgotten.
