Khazad-dûm is a funeral doom band active since 2015.
Daniel Scrivener, Matthew Surry and Chris Kendell released the demo Stones of Sorrow in 2015 as the band Khazad-dûm's first recording.
The band's debut from Reading, UK, was released five years later in Spring 2020, entitled Hymns from the Deep, via I Hate Records. In the meantime, bassist Kendell had left the band without replacement. Divided into five tracks, Hymns from the Deep is written as a concept album. The album's lyrics are written as one long coherent poem, adapted from the Companions' passage through Moria described by JRR Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings. The album was well received and recommended to Funeral Doom fans.
Khazad-dûm is classified as a Funeral Doom band. The singing varies between dominant growling, clear singing, and polyphonic singing which are rated as chorale-like. The instrumentation is discussed as a slowed-down variation of Death Doom. The drumming sometimes even reaches rhythmic to fast tempi, which are musically associated with black metal. In a band profile for the webzine Doom-Metal.com, the music is described as a "dark, hard and cavernous" sounding mix of Evoken and Hierophant.
