I love Zappa. and of course, I love the Mothers. I've heard a lot of stuff from 67" and this brilliant takes the second place (the first is Safe as Milk, so I guess it is completely fair). oh, I forgot to say that "Invocation And Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin" is fucking wonderful and has in it one of the best Zappa's guitar works.

Probably the Mothers' best album, and a strong case could be made that it pretty much invented progressive rock. It always feels pretty overlooked to me, but it does have the fourth highest number of listeners of any FZ album, apparently, so maybe it isn't as overlooked as I thought it was.

Has interesting ideas and a few nice tracks, muddled beneath poor production and Zappa's particularly annoying voice on this album. Usually I actually enjoy his voice, but this one just doesn't sit right with me.

This albums is just so weird, intelligent and really beautiful at the same time, I love every second of it.

In case you haven't realized the power and diversity of Zappa and his influences, here is a list of artists he parodies/ pays tribute to in this album's first half. The Beach Boys, The Kingsmen, The Supreams, Gene Chandler, and Igor Stravinsky. Combine that with a 7 minute free jazzesque solo, some dynamyte composition on Zappa's own part, and lyrics about prunes, you have for a great album.
