Written by Bill Trader and Recorded in 1958 in what has become known as the "Dream Session" while Elvis was on leave from the Army, "A Fool Such as I" was first recorded by Hank Snow and served as a big hit for the country artist. Although Elvis performed with Snow on the Louisiana Hayride, ousting Snow as the headliner, Elvis did not know the song. Ray Walker of the Jordanaires taught the song to Elvis at Ray's first session as the new bass singer. The song was recorded at RCA Nashville in the famed Studio B with pianist Floyd Cramer and guitarist Hank Garland. The song peaked at Number Two in the U.S., Number One in England, and sold over a million on its first run. "A Fool Such as I" appeared first on the album 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong," the famed cover with Elvis standing tall in his gold lame suit.
