"Back to Black" is a reflective track about the break up of a relationship and the emotions that follow. The song focuses on the idea of going back to a previous state after a significant change, in this case, the end of a relationship. The protagonist is regretful and heartbroken that things have ended, but has accepted the situation and is now looking to the future.
