Top 20 for 2003 - Retrospective
Mar 5 2008, 17h13
A year of highs and lows. In music, I "discovered" the mp3 format and returned to listen more to mainstream music.
Here we go with the list:
20 - Panjabi MC -
Mundiah To Bach Ke What happens when you mix black music with sounds from India? An extremely bizarre and cool song
19 - Uriah Heep - Which Way Will the Wind Blow Uriah Heep returns to top20 with an "Aersomith-style" song
18 - The Moody Blues -
Melancholy Man The best song from their best album, A Question of Balance
17 - The Beatles - You Really Got a Hold on Me The vocals, with alternating singers, create a unique effect
16 - Stacie Orrico -
Stuck Pop's comming back to the carts!!!
15 - Bon Jovi -
Misunderstood When you think Bon Jovi is over, they return with good songs. And bad video clips
14 - The Moody Blues -
Nights in White Satin Another Moody Blues' entry. It is a great song that suffered a revival that year
13 - Matchbox Twenty -
Disease Do you remember them? I think this is their best song
12 - Tears for Beers - Drunken Sailor I initially gave a listen to this band just because of their name. And so I discovered a great band. Do it yourself too
11 - Tribalistas -
Velha Infância Okay. This song sucks a bit. But it was so ever-present that it was impossible not to put it on the top 20
10 - Julian Lennon -
Valotte Valotte is a very good album, here Julian sounds like his father probably would in the 80's
09 - Evanescence -
Bring Me to Life By this song, I thought Evanescence would be a great band. But almost all the other songs consist in Amy Lee sobbing
08 - Jacques Brel -
Ne Me Quitte Pas Okay, it's grandma's stuff, but sounds good and emotive
07 - Pitty - Máscara This song is fun. It caused tons of laughs during that year
06 - The Beatles - Till There Was You From time to time, I rediscover some Beatles' song
05 - Audioslave -
Like a Stone The best thing Rage Against the Machine could have done: changing their singer. At least Chris Cornell sings
04 - George Harrison -
Dark Horse Harrison again. A good song that brings me back the images of that year
03 - Steve Miller Band -
Fly Like an Eagle A great song from them. The synth sounds at the end are very funny
02 - Simply Red -
Stars Most of Simply Red's songs annoy me, but this one is just the opposite. Beautiful
01 - Rick Wakeman -
March of the Gladiators It's instrumental, but who cares? It's powerful and nice. Good song to recover your energies

I don't understand the 2003 connection. Are you saying that's what you were listening to then? And how do you remember, if so?

Yes, the 2003 connection is with what I used to listen that year.
I remember that associating songs to facts that happened that year or even periods (songs I used to listen in certain moments).
Of course if I had done these charts in 2003, they would be a bit different from the ones from now.
